CANDIDATE INFORMATION

Know what to expect.

Clear rules for eligibility, timed exams, fees, privacy, and keeping your SBC credential current.

3 hours. One continuous session.

Once you click Start Exam, your timed exam begins. You will have 3 hours to complete it.

Eligibility

All required courses in the applicable SBC Coursebox pathway must be complete and verified before exam registration is approved. Optional courses are listed separately and do not block eligibility. Self-declaration does not unlock an exam.

Exam timing & the Start Exam button

Once you click Start Exam, your timed exam begins. You will have 3 hours to complete it. The exam cannot be paused. Refreshing the page or reconnecting does not restart the clock. At the end of the three-hour window, the attempt closes and saved answers are submitted for scoring. Preparation, policy consent, and system checks occur before the timer starts. The shortened recertification exam duration will be displayed before its launch.

Fees & payment

The initial certification exam costs $125, one eligible retake costs $100, and recertification costs $75. Valid discount codes may reduce these amounts. A fully discounted exam is recorded as “Discounted to $0” and does not require a Stripe charge. Full card information is never stored in the portal. Payment processing is not enabled in this release.

Retake rules

Only one retake is permitted within a rolling 12-month period. If the retake is unsuccessful, no additional attempt is allowed until the next annual eligibility period. The exact future eligibility date is determined from the candidate’s verified attempt history.

Proctoring & candidate conduct

Candidates must complete identity and security setup, system checks, and required consent before launch. Remain in the camera frame, use only permitted materials, and do not share examination content. Webcam recording, screen monitoring, and microphone monitoring where enabled are subject to explicit consent. A normal web page cannot fully lock a computer; a secure-browser integration will be required for that level of control.

Technical requirements

Use a compatible desktop or laptop, reliable internet, a working webcam, and screen-sharing capability. A microphone may be required when audio monitoring is enabled. Provider-specific browser, device, and operating-system requirements will be supplied before testing opens.

Flagged exams & human review

Automated systems may generate event flags and timestamps. A flag is not a finding of misconduct. AI must not independently accuse a candidate of cheating or determine a final exam disposition. Flagged attempts enter an SBC human review queue before a final outcome or credential is issued.

Appeals & review

Candidates may request review of a final examination disposition through SBC. A human reviewer evaluates relevant evidence and documents the decision. The submission method, response timeline, and post-resolution retention period must be finalized before live testing begins.

Privacy & consent

Before exam launch, candidates acknowledge webcam recording, screen monitoring, microphone monitoring if used, AI-assisted flagging, human review, retention rules, and exam integrity requirements. Private candidate data, answer keys, proctor evidence, scores, failed attempts, payments, and internal notes are restricted to authorized users. The verification registry displays only credential information.

Proctoring video retention

The planned normal retention period is 30 days, followed by automatic deletion. Evidence under an active investigation or appeal may be held until the case is resolved. A defined post-resolution deletion schedule will be applied after closure. Exam outcomes, timestamps, event metadata, review outcomes, and audit records may be retained longer. Native browser recording and secure evidence storage are implemented. A scheduled cleanup task must be connected before unattended 30-day deletion is activated.

Expiration & recertification

SBC credentials are valid for two years. A shortened proctored recertification exam costs $75 and follows the same human review rules when flags exist. Successful recertification extends the credential by another two years. Reminder events are created for 90, 60, and 30 days before expiration and appear in the candidate portal when due. Email delivery requires a notification service.
